PonziCoin, a tongue-in-cheek cryptocurrency that openly declared itself as a Ponzi scheme, was created as a parody by San Francisco developer Rishab Hegde. Launched in 2017 as an ERC-20 token, it was inspired by the original PonziCoin from 2014. The project humorously branded itself as the “worlds first legitimate Ponzi scheme” and transparently warned investors about the risks involved, stating that they might lose up to 75% or even 100% of their investment . Despite the clear disclaimers, there were over 900 transactions recorded to the PonziCoin smart contract, indicating that some participants actually bought into the satirical project .
As of August 8, 2024, the current price of PonziCoin (PONZI) is $0.00225, with a 24-hour trading volume of $22.49. The market capitalization, based on the total supply, is estimated to be around $1.9 Thousand . It's important to note that the project was ultimately shut down by its creator, who emphasized that it was a parody and a warning to investors about the risks of shady cryptocurrencies, especially those resembling pyramid schemes .
