Reason for this visit

Canada is one of the most “crypto-friendly” countries in the world. Local cryptocurrency exchanges have been classified as institutions that provide financial services since the country passed a bill to completely legalize cryptocurrency in June 2020. As a result, Canada becomes the market that global crypto exchanges are competing for. To help investors get a more comprehensive understanding of the exchanges in Canada, WikiBit survey team decides to go to the country for on-site visits to local companies.

On-site visit

In this issue, the investigators went to Canada to visit the cryptocurrency exchange Bitget as planned according to its regulatory address that 88 Queens Quay West, Suite 2505 Toronto, ON, Canada M5J0B8.

The survey personnel arrived at 88 Queens Quay West in Toronto of Ontario, Canada on June 25, 2023, and located “RBC WaterPark Place”, a modern office building featuring a glass façade, in a prosperous commercial district in Downtown Toronto. There are high-rise buildings around with huge crowd of people.

From the outdoor directory at the entrance of the building, it could be seen that there were only two companies, RBC bank and co-working space Regus.

After accessing the building for further investigation, the survey team spotted a reception area in the center of the spacious lobby on the ground floor.

And then the investigation team reached suite 2505 by the elevator, and found that the entire floor was occupied by company Regus. From the floor directory, there was no any information regarding the company name or logo of Bitget, except Regus. According to the receptionist working for Regus, they found nothing about company Bitget following searching their system.

Through an on-site investigation, it is confirmed that Bitget doesnt have a presence at the location.

Conclusion

The survey team went to Canada to visit cryptocurrency exchange Bitget, but didnt find the company at its regulatory address. This suggests that the company may just register at the place without a physical business office. Therefore, investors are advised to choose the exchange cautiously.
